I did that.
I wanted it that way. (:

Really makes me wonder how I managed to play this game with skipping the tutorials completely ... ... oh no wait, I did the first one and decided that it's a bullshit way starting the game.
And I wonder how everyone else who deliberately went solo managed to learn how to play it.
Fact of the matter is that there are people who drop out for a reason ... ... and blaming the NPE for it only makes limited sense ... ... simply because obviously there are enough smart enough people around who didn't drop out.
One has to ask himself what the reason is that some people aren't capable enough.
Learning EVE involves effort. If people aren't cut for it ... they leave.
Of course we need new players ... but at what cost?
If they can't handle it ... what does it tell about them?
Do we really want these kind of people?
I certainly don't think so.
And I doubt that the OP really is a new player anyway. Another satisfied customer! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=374461 Check out the attractive miiral in her new 'Avenue' short dress! More to come soon! |

I skipped the NPE both tries I tried Eve. The only reason I stuck around after the second attempt was because I got lucky and found a corp with some really good guys. I'm not making anyones point. At least not intentionally.
I've spent two weeks reading about gamemechanics before I even started the trial.
Am I an exception? Hell yeah, it really seems so... but so what?
Everyone can do the same ... people just don't!
Is that the game's fault? Hell no! Another satisfied customer! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=374461 Check out the attractive miiral in her new 'Avenue' short dress! More to come soon! |

Anyone can do worthwhile things pretty much from the first day. If that's how you played, it's a wonder that you actually stayed.
In 90% of all cases, the issue isn't the NPE ... the issue is the players themselves.
Do we want a game that makes it easy enough for a lot of people to grasp it ... ... or do we want EVE ONLINE?
I prefer the latter. Another satisfied customer! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=374461 Check out the attractive miiral in her new 'Avenue' short dress! More to come soon! |

"we don't pick on new players. we do however go after juicy targets!we don't pick on new players. we do however go after juicy targets!" - When you said "we" I thought you were referring to EvE players in general- I'm not upset that I lost a $1mil heron- I was slightly annoyed however that a player that had been playing for 5 years had nothing better to do than to chase me 6 jumps to take me out. Sorry but ... how exactly did you die? How do you know he chased you? Why didn't you dock, if you knew?

Err ... so, you are calling me a liar?
You're clueless about the possibilities. A common thing with people is that they rather talk back out of their dunning-krueger effect, than simply ASKING about what they might not know.
Hey, if you look up "dunning-krueger effect" it would be a good start.
Anyhow ... stay clueless. Another satisfied customer! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=374461 Check out the attractive miiral in her new 'Avenue' short dress! More to come soon! |

Bob Bedala wrote:From the CSM 8 Minutes (my emphasis highlighting why people actually quit): Quote:Dr. EyjoG .. pointed out where newbies started, and said the most traditional path was to be a newbie (novice) and then go into solo PvE -- or at least, single-player PvE. The CSM suggested several routes for this: exploration, mining, missioning, running anoms. CCP knows these people tend to fall off once they reach this point, because they don't get to the sandbox-- they never get that engaged. Dr. EyjoG referenced the infamous EVE "learning cliff".
Dr. EyjoG said they asked surveys about why people quit, and asked if they knew about the sandbox. Plenty of people said they didn't and didn't want to be in it...
Dr. EyjoG summarized our working hypothesis as the idea that those who had no social connection would come in and drop out, and Ripard challenged this, saying there was a large set of people who came in and PvE'd and didn't really talk to anyone while being very engaged. Dr. EyjoG said most of these were not very engaged; they tended to drop out. They weren't doing very many activities...
Dr. EyjoG said that the other possibility for the barrier was a "knowledge wall", which can be addressed by social but that isn't rooted in a social connection [and] suggested that the group which jumped to expert was just more interested and able to learn by themselves, thus bringing them over a knowledge barrier. Let's add something for completeness.
Rookiecorps contain griefers that tell new players to mine, run missions and avoid lowsec, because it's a deathtrap ... pretty much making new players do and think bullshit from the getgo.
It's these griefers who have a huge influence in why there are so many dropouts.

My sarcasm detector just melted upon reading this, so... I haven't got a clue if you're being serious or not. I needed a laugh though For the record, I don't "tell" people to mine/ run missions until their face meets their keyboard. Funnily enough, the few people who do ask for advice already planned out what they were going to do before-hand, be it from the streamer they watched on twitch, a friend telling them how to make isk quickly/how to play safely e.t.c. I was being serious, but not addressing you.
These people really exist and I'm not even the only one who calls them griefers.
On my occasional journeys through rookiecorps I saw this happening every time ... ... anx had lots of talks with people who really thought they HAVE to mine or run missions.
Which bored lots of them to death ... and they really thought that was what the game was about! And THAT is really bad.... The most sexy piece of clothing New Eden saw to date!
